Somme Centenary

I had the priviledge of leading 2 services to commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme. One of them was in my home church which is Kildress. The only person from the parish killed at the Somme was a cousin of my granddad William Nathaniel Thom. While doing research we found out that Nat’s brother was also in the war and was awarded a military cross, he was a padre in the Army and was a curate in Dublin. I felt that I was standing on the shoulders of a couple of family giants. It was a very humbling experience.

My second service was in All Saints Crossdernott, the parade was led by Mulnagore Accordion Band and a there was a great turn out.
